Juanita Phillips Sumner peacefully passed away May 15, 2016.

Juanita was born Elizabeth Juanita Phillips on June 3, 1922 in Barnardsville, NC. To Rev. N. B. Phillips and Zenora Hunter. She is a graduate of Furman University, with a B.A degree in education. She held teaching positions in Columbia, SC., Birmingham Ala., and Dallas TX.
Juanita and her late husband, William H. Sumner, were longtime residents of Cranford, NJ and active members of the community.
Juanita was an active member of Terrill Road Baptist Church for many years, serving in several positions; Sunday school teacher, church hostess, librarian, also serving on various committees.
She is survived by her son William H. Sumner and his wife Susan; Daughter Nancy Mindlin and her husband Larry; Three grandchildren Shannon and her husband Jordan; Hunter; Ian and his wife Melissa; and three great-grandsons Mason, Logan, and Maximus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Terrill Road Baptist Church, Scotch Plains, NJ.
