Julia M. Hoff, 86, Longtime Resident; Was Involved In Civic and Community Activities Julia M. Hoff, age 86, passed away quietly at the Center for Hope Hospice, on Saturday, September 3, 2011, after a long illness. Relatives and friends are invited to visit the Gray Funeral Home, at 318 E. Broad Street, Westfield, Tuesday September 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. (www.grayfuneralhomes.com to offer condolences). A funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1571 Martine Ave., Scotch Plains Wednesday, September 7, at 10 am. Internment will be at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, in Summit, NJ. Peggy (as she was known to friends and family) was a resident of Scotch Plains for more than five decades, and was active in civic and community activities. A life-long volunteer, Peggy selflessly gave of her time to a variety of local organizations and developed many friends along the way. She was a Scotch Plains Committee Woman, served on the local Advisory Board and was a member of the Union County Historical Society. She was also active with Our Lady of Lourdes WPA. Born in Jersey City, N.J. and raised in West Orange, Peggy attended Drake secretarial school after graduation from West Orange High School. She held several positions during her long working career. She retired from full time employment with Runnells Specialized Hospital, in Berkeley Heights, but continued on a part-time basis until December of 2010. Peggy was the daughter of Rose (Newman) O’Rourke and Patrick J. O’Rourke. She was predeceased by her husband Wallace E. Hoff, in 1983, and her brother John P. O’Rourke. She is survived by her two children, Nancy J. (Hoff) Allen of Scotch Plains and Edward J. Hoff of New York; and four grandchildren: Michael P. Allen, of Washington, D.C.; and Brian T. Allen, Stephen E. Allen and Meghan E. Allen, all of Scotch Plains. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the ALS Association, 42 Broadway, Suite 1724, New York, NY 10004 or the St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, P.O.
