LENORE W. EAKELEY Lenore W. Eakeley (née Lenore Elizabeth Wolff) died on August 24, 2011 after a long battle with congestive heart failure, at age 90. Private interment will be in the Revolutionary War Cemetery, Westfield. Arrangements by Gray's, Funeral Directors, Westfield. A resident of Westfield, N.J., Lee (as she was known to her friends) had been an active participant in civic and community affairs, serving as PTA president, volunteer at Overlook Hospital, and Sunday school teacher (with her husband of 66 years, M. Scott Eakeley, who predeceased her) at the Presbyterian Church of Westfield. She was a co-founder of Highland Swim Club in Scotch Plains, one of the first cooperative swimming associations on the East Coast, and of Bells and Beaux dancing class for junior high schoolers. Lee also participated enthusiastically in the Nine Holer program at Baltusrol Golf Club, among other Club activities (including bridge, bowling and dances). Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Eakeley grew up in Madison, N.J. She graduated from Middlebury College, where she met her future husband, and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. An avid reader, Lee was a supporter of the Westfield Public Library. She also readily polished off the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle every weekend. She is survived by her two children, Linda Duncan of Westfield and Douglas Eakeley of Short Hills, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Presbyterian Church of Westfield or the Overlook Hospital Foundation.
