Lillian Chester Phelan

Lillian Chester Phelan, 88, of Cranford NJ, formerly of Farmingdale, NY, died peacefully at home on Friday December 17, 2010, surrounded by family members. Mrs. Phelan was born in Manhattan. She grew up in Jamaica, Queens and lived in Farmingdale, NY for many years where she raised her six children. Mrs. Phelan lived in Lakewood, N.J before moving to Cranford in 2004. A homemaker, Mrs. Phelan was active in the St. Killian's Choir and was a member of the Farmingdale Women's Club. Mrs. Phelan was the loving wife of the late Donald J. Phelan who passed away in 2004. Surviving are two sons, Joseph of Madison, CT, and Donald of Avon, CT; four daughters, Beth Brown of Richmond, VA, Nina Aldrich of Oak Hill, VA, Janet Collins of Cranford and Winnie Scuteri of Clinton, NJ; 14grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Monday December 20th, 2010, Gray Memorial Funeral Home 12 Springfield Ave. Cranford, NJ. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:30 on Tuesday, December 21st, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Cranford. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
