Lois Thomson, 92, of Cranford, NJ died peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, January 30, 2022. Born in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada to the late William and Eva (Smith) Milton, Lois was a graduate of Alma College in St. Thomas. She emigrated to the US in 1952, residing in Westfield, NJ for over 60 years and spent her final years in Cranford.
Lois and her husband, William Thomson, owned and operated The Barclay Classes. For decades, Bill and Lois taught ballroom dancing and the social graces to hundreds of thousands of children across 25 communities in 5 states. Upon Bill's death in 1991, Lois assumed the title of Director and led the popular program well into her 80s.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Ulea Campbell. She is survived by her daughters, Lea Batzold (Jim Ludlam), Betsy Hoag (Billy), Margie Kelley (Dennis), Joanie Kupfer (Larry), and Diane Dittman. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kelly O'Neill (Brian), Flynn Pustilnik (Gary), Caroline Kupfer, Cameron Kupfer and Jason Dittman, great-grandchildren, Kathleen and William O'Neill and Rhys and Rylie Pustilnik, and her beloved dog Chloe.
A graveside service is planned for Friday, February 4 at 11:30 a.m., at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, followed by a reception for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the ASPCA, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
