Louis S. Valvo, 92, of Warwick, MD, formerly of Cranford, NJ passed away peacefully after a short illness on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014 at Genesis Health Care, Elkton, Md. Born and raised in Forestville NY, he joined the war effort in 1942 and proudly fought for his country in the 8th infantry division (anti-aircraft) throughout Europe. He married and opened a successful business in Newark NJ (Holiday Decorators). Lou raised his family in Cranford NJ where he was active in the community and was well liked and respected by all who knew him. He was a manager for the Cranford Boys Baseball League's NL Braves, and later became the league president. Prior to moving he was a fun loving member of the Cranford senior citizens group where he had many friends. He was also instrumental in the successful Cranford Florist while his daughter Paula was the proprietor. Despite moving to Maryland later in life, he remained a dedicated member and lifelong friend of many men in VFW post 335 in Cranford. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church (DE) and former member of the Garwood Presbyterian Church. He is predeceased by his wife Pauline. He is survived by his daughter Paula McCloskey; son John Valvo; brother Joseph Valvo; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Lou's Visitation will be Thursday Oct. 30th, from 2-4 and 7-9PM at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford. His funeral service will begin at 10AM Friday (today) Oct. 31, 2014 at Garwood Presbyterian Church , 341 Spruce St., Garwood. Interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth.
