Lucille Clunie (nee Iuso), 91, formerly of Lavallette New Jersey, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 25th, 2024. She was happily married for 62 years to her late husband, Harry Clunie (2019). Lucille graduated from Orange High School in 1950 where she was a cheerleader. She participated in many high school sports, particularly excelling in tennis. She then went on to further her education at Russell Sage College to pursue marketing where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1954. She worked at Kresge’s department store in Newark as a buyer. She also worked at Esso Bayway in Linden, as a secretary.
She married Harry Clunie, of Kearny, in 1957. Harry & Lucille raised their two children, Christopher and Jan, in Orange and then moved to Springfield in 1964. Lucille enjoyed watching various sports which included her beloved New York Yankees, New York Giants, and Seton Hall Basketball.She was an avid sports fan, and tennis player. She spent many years at the Jersey shore in Lavallette where her family home was located. Lucille and Harry eventually moved there year-round to enjoy their retirement.
Lucille is survived by her sister MaryJo Austin (nee Iuso), her two children, Christoper Clunie and Jan C. Villari (John Villari), her 5 grandchildren, Ian Clunie (Erin Clunie), Rachel Clunie, James Villari (Alexandra Villari), Andrew Villari (Avery Adams), and Julia Villari (fiancé Brendan Lloyd). She also is survived by two great grandchildren; Luca Villari, son of James & Alexandra Villari, and Lilian Clunie, daughter of Ian & Erin Clunie.
Lucille’s visitation will be 4:00-8:00 PM Thursday May 30th, at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave. Cranford. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday May 31, 2024 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Westfield. Burial with her late husband Harry will follow in the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
