Luis S. Mendez, 80, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on July 5, 2017. Luis was born in Havana, Cuba on January 6, 1937 and studied law at the University of Havana. Forced to flee his home country to escape political persecution, he ultimately arrived in New York in 1961. Luis utilized his keen business acumen and steadfast determination to propel himself with unprecedented speed from department store packager to renowned Wall Street executive. His family, friends, and colleagues remember him most fondly for his integrity, strength of leadership, unsurpassed industry knowledge, and fierce loyalty. He is survived by his three loving children: Marc (Marisa), Jason (Sara), and Danielle (Lee); his eight grandchildren: Alexandra, Lucas, Lucy, Emma, Luis, Evelyn, Adelaide, and Riley; and many other adoring friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Luis Socorro Mendez, and his mother, Dorinda Bequer.
