M. SCOTT EAKELEY M. Scott Eakeley of Westfield died at Overlook Hospital on May 2, 2010. He was 88 years old. Born in Oneonta, New York, he met his future wife, Lenore Elizabeth Wolff, when they were undergraduates at Middlebury College, Vermont. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Eakeley served in the United States Navy as a lieutenant, participating in the North African and Italian campaigns, in the Normandy invasion and in the preparations for the invasion of Japan. In addition to receiving a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Middlebury, he received an MBA from New York University and attended the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University. Before retiring, he was a Senior Trust Officer and Vice President of First National State Bank. Mr. Eakeley was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield, where he served as Clerk of Session, Deacon and Trustee at various times. He was also engaged in a broad range of civic activities in Westfield and in Middlebury College alumni affairs. Although blind for many years due to macular degeneration, Mr. Eakeley until recently was still able to drive a golf ball down the middle of the fairway at his favorite golf club, Baltusrol. Surviving are his beloved wife, Lenore, his children Linda Duncan of Westfield and Douglas Eakeley of Short Hills, his grandchildren Jennifer Davies of Arlington, Virginia, Elizabeth Arnall of New York City, Benjamin Eakeley of New York City, and Jacqueline Davies of Ottawa, Ontario, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at a future date. Arrangements by Gray Funeral Home, Westfield.
