Margaret J. "Nancy" Baker (nee Spinner), age 88, formerly of Cranford, NJ, died on July 22, 2022 at Virtua Hospital in Voorhees, NJ. Visitation will be from 10:30- 11:30 AM on Friday July 29, 2022 at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave, Cranford, NJ, where her prayer service will begin at 11:30AM Friday. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ. Nancy was born on March 7, 1934 in Elizabeth, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Theodore and Margaret (Healy) Spinner. Nancy lived in Westfield during her childhood and graduated from Benedictine Academy in 1952. She worked as a hematology technician at Elizabeth General Hospital for many years.
Nancy married John Baker in 1963 and moved to Cranford, NJ, where they lived happily for 48 years. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother who devoted herself to her family and friends. Once her children were grown, Nancy became a teacher's aide at Brookside Elementary School. She enjoyed flower arranging and other crafts, and was particularly fond of clothes shopping. Nancy loved spending time with her family and friends at home and at the Jersey Shore.
In 2001, she was hit by a drunk driver, but miraculously survived and gradually recovered with the help and sacrifice of her husband. After John died in 2011, Nancy moved to Voorhees, NJ to be closer to her sons and grandchildren. She lived to see her grandchildren grow, and graduate high school and college. Nancy never lost her great sense of humor and resilience. She was always fiercely independent and courageous.
Nancy is survived by her son Donald Baker and wife Judy, and her grandsons Ryan and Justin; her son Jeffrey Baker and her grandson Jack; and her brother Charles Spinner (and wife Diane)
