Margaret Ward, 75, Multifaceted Wife, Mother, Computer Programmer and Merchant.
Margaret Ward, of Westfield, passed away peacefully at home on June 25th after a 6 year battle with
cancer.
Intellectually curious and creative her entire life, Margaret was first an English teacher, following her
graduation from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1964. In 1966, Margaret married Kenneth Ward of the same
college class, and in 1975 moved to Westfield.
In the late 1970's, the dawn of the Information Age, Margaret began a successful career as a computer
programmer for the aerospace industry. Later in life, she was a diligent partner with Ken in their merchant
family business, which has run smoothly now for more than 30 years. With the dry humor of an accountant,
and carefully chosen words, she found levity when it was needed.
In addition to being a voracious reader of fact and fiction, Margaret loved restoring, creating, and collecting
both antiques and craft art. She had a keen eye for detail, which helped her in her favorite pastimes of
crossword puzzles, sewing, beading necklaces, and keeping track of Ken and the dogs. She was a master
interpreter of directions inscrutable to others. She spent endless hours learning and doing what she loved with
faithful care and focus, and the Weather Channel on in the background.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ken, her son Bill Ward with wife Amber of Manhattan, and
daughter Jane Tyner and husband John of Knoxville; Sister Anne Delmore of Madison, Wisconsin and 4
grandchildren, Evelyn, Eleanor, Beckett, and Lena.
Margaret's services will begin at 11:00AM Saturday July 14, 2018 at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 414 E. Broad Street, Westfield. Burial will follow in the Garth of St. Paul's Church.
