Marilyn Jane MacWhirter (nee Brill)

Marilyn Jane (nee Brill) MacWhirter of Cranford, NJ passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family at age 92.  She and her twin brother Richard were Independence Day babies.  Raised in Newark, she worked at the Prudential in 1952 where she met her future husband John.  Together they shared 61 years of marriage.  Her creativity brought her many awards for painting, pressed flowers, quilting and needlepoint at Women’s Club and Union County Senior Exhibits.  She was a member of the Cranford First Presbyterian Church, the Village Improvement Association, Senior and Scrabble clubs.  She and John traveled extensively on cruises, bus and train tours and via car.  Great memories were created at their Jersey Shore home, “Mac’s Shack”.  She is predeceased by her husband, parents, and brothers Richard and Roger.  She is survived by son Glen and his partner Joan of NC., daughter Janice and husband Bob Haddad of Clark.  She was affectionally known as Gramlyn to her four grandchildren, Meg McNeill (Danny), Elizabeth Shanley (McLean), Tom Haddad (Jess), Rob Haddad, and five greatgrandchildren, Whitman, Larkin, Louise (Lulu), Jack, Charlie. To Lulu, she was “Glamlyn”.

Marilyn’s visitation will be Wednesday January 24th from 4-8pm at Gray Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave. Cranford, where her funeral service will begin at 11AM Thursday January 25, 2024.
