Marion Claire Bass, 79, of Mountainside, NJ passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. A funeral service will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, NJ, immediately following a private visitation for family members from 10am to 12pm at Gray Funeral Directors, 318 E Broad Street, Westfield, NJ.
Marion was the daughter of the late Edmund and Dorothy Knitter. Marion is preceded in death by her son Glenn, her husband Manfred, her brother-in-laws: Gerhard Bass and Joseph Mish, and her sister-in-laws: Edel Freitag and Marion Bass. She is survived by her daughter: Laura Bass Heins, her grandson: Richard Glenn Heins, her three brother-in-laws: Wm. Peter Freitag, Walter Bass and William Soos, and her four sister-in-laws: Bette Bass, Inge Mills, Marianne Mish and Elizabeth Soos. Marion was also the loving aunt to 17 nieces and nephews.
Marion always had a love for animals, children and nature. She graduated with an undergraduate degree from Newark State College (currently, Kean University), and was a teacher for children with special needs in the Roselle Park school district for many years. She spent several summers vacationing with her husband, Manfred, family and friends at their summer cottages on Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania. She and her husband were also avid travelers to destinations which included; Africa, Bermuda, the Canadian Rockies, the Caribbean, Europe, the Galapagos Islands, and states within the United States of America. She was also an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Mountainside.
