Mary Clark Nevalls of Cranford, NJ age 99, died on June 10th, 2022. Born in Canton, NY, she graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College and Albright Art School, B.S. Art Education, 1944. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She won the "Miss Buffalo" Powers Girl contest in 1943. Her war effort was as a part-time driller-riveter at Kittinger Company. A Former Art Supervisor (12 grades) at Skaneateles Central High School, NY, and substitute teacher in Erie, PA and Cranford, NJ. She was married to Harvey Kenyon Nevalls, Jr. in Buffalo, NY on September 22, 1944. After WW II, they lived in Buffalo, NY, moved to Erie, PA in 1948, to Fair Lawn, NJ in 1952, and to Cranford, NJ in 1953.
Mrs. Nevalls served on the Newcomers Club Board, was President of Orange Ave Junior High School PTA, Vice President of Cranford High School, PTA, and the first Art Chairman of the College Women's Club. She served the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford in multiple areas as Secretary of Deacons, Sunday School Superintendent of the Beginner's department, Art Chairman of Adult Education Committee, Chairman of the 1976 public Bicentennial Show, Chairman of the April 1992 public "Festival of the Arts" show, designed many Couples Club Pair Tree covers, Chairman of many church dances, and as the first Religious Banners Chairman, 1976, 19194-1997, created the churches banner to commemorate their 100th anniversary, Couples Club Banner in 1996, and the Town Quilt Block for the 125th anniversary of the church. She was a longtime member of the Floraphile Garden Club, received multiple state and regional awards recognizing her accomplishments, and honored with a certificate for Longtime Service as past President. During her time as the Floraphile Garden Club Civic Committee Chairman, she created the design for the Girl Scout Park Miniature Gardens and plantings in downtown Cranford. She is a life member of the Buffalo State College Alumni Association.
She was the beloved wife of the late Harvey Kenyon Nevalls Jr., and is survived by her children,son Harvey Kenyon Nevalls III, and daughters Marsha Nevalls Blake, Wendy Nevalls, and Linda Nevalls Moyer, Son-in Laws Dan Blake and Paul Moyer, Daughter In-Law Faith Nevalls, Grandchildren Kenyon Nevalls, Jared Nevalls, Hope Nevalls, Jody Lin Blake Amonds, Madeline Crossle Moyer and Clay Cameron Moyer, and Great Grandchildren, Angelo Lyric Blake, King Blake, and Isla Blake, and sister Lura Speer.
Memorial funeral Services for both Harvey and Mary will be 11 am October 15, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford, New Jersey.
