A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005 at 11 am in the Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford for Mr. Melville Harris Gaughan. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Mr. Gaughan age 85 passed away on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005 in JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Mr. Gaughan was born in Bayonne and lived in Kenilworth and Westfield for many years before moving to Edison several years ago. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy. He served with the Fourth Marine Div. Company L Third Battallion 23rd Marines. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He was also a member of the Fourth Marine Division Association.
He was a graduate of Maryville College in Tenn. and received his Masters degree from Columbia University in New York City. Mr. Gaughan taught general science and biology at JP Stevens High School in Edison for many years. He retired in 1985.
Mr. Gaughan was a member of the Kenilworth Gospel Chapel.
His wife Esther passed way in June of 1997. He is survived by his daughter Eilene Luba and her husband Bob. Three sons, Tom, Jim and David and his wife Deborah. Also surviving is a brother Warren F. Gaughan. He will be deply missed by his grandchildren David and Christina Gaughan.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Gray Memorial Funeral Home 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford.
