Merlyn W Jones passed away on December 20, 2016. He was born on June 2, 1932 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Richard and Irene (Swartwood) Jones. He grew up in Wilkes-Barre and graduated from James M Coughlin High School in 1950 where he played Varsity Football. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from The State Teacher's College of Pennsylvania (Bloomsburg University) in 1954. While playing football at Bloomsburg he was part of the undefeated football team of 1951. Later he received his Masters of Education from Montclair State University. He married Ruth Paul on October 15, 1955. She survives. He began his teaching career in Montclair, NJ and retired after teaching 35 years in the Math Department of Cranford High School. He and Ruth enjoyed many trips and cruises over their retirement years. He was an avid train collector and spent many years setting up his train board for the kids and grandkids to enjoy. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Ruth, his children , Janet (Ted) Beaver of Wooster, OH, Richard Jones of Harrisburg, PA, Judith (Kevin) Scott of Colonia, NJ, and Jill (Stephen) Muir of Effort, PA, 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and his brother, Richard (Denise) Jones of Macungie, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Irene Harbester, his son in law, Kevin Scott, and son, David P Jones. Visitation and life celebration will be Friday December 23, 2016 from 10 am until service time at 11 am at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, Cranford.
