Michael C. McIntyre, 87 a resident at Fellowship Village, Basking Ridge, N.J., formerly a resident at Four Seasons at Wall, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 4, 2024. He lived a great and full life.
Michael was born on April 30, 1936, in Newark, N.J. He was the tenth and last child of Irish immigrants, Daniel and Mary Ellen McIntyre. Michael was raised in Newark and was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. Michael often reminisced about his great childhood, his family, his many friends, St. Antoninus parish and primary school, and Seton Hall Prep, from which he graduated in 1954. He was voted his high school class Orator for good reason. Michael attended Providence College, graduated from Seton Hall University in 1958 and obtained his MBA from Rutgers University. Michael was a commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard and after his active duty served in the reserves until he retired as a Commander.
Michael met Carol Pompilio when they both worked a summer in-turn job at Newark City Hall. They married in 1961 at St. Francis Church in Newark. They settled in Springfield, N.J. and began their family. In 1976 Michael’s job relocated to Rhode Island and the family moved to East Greenwich, R.I. They remained in East Greenwich until 1998, with the exception of one year. At the conclusion of a successful career, Michael and Carol moved to the Four Seasons at Wall community in 1998. There they enjoyed an active retirement while meeting many new friends.
Michael made a career as a property and casualty insurance salesman and executive for Allendale Insurance (now FM Global Insurance). A gregarious person, Michael’s job afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively and to meet numerous people from around the world and all walks of life.
Michael had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, a great memory and a keen ability to tell a story. He really enjoyed meeting people. Michael also believed in giving back to his community. He enjoyed his time on the Springfield N.J Board of Education, serving as an usher at various parishes he was a member at, announcing East Greenwich High School football games and serving on his homeowner’s association’s board. He enjoyed golf, coaching and playing ball with his children and grandchildren, traveling, reading, learning, Providence College basketball, and socializing, at which he was very good at.
Most of all, Michael enjoyed his loving wife, Carol, his children and his extensive family. After 59 years of marriage, Carol passed away in September 2021. Her loss deeply affected Michael, but his deep Catholic faith and love of life helped guide him thereafter.
Michael was predeceased by his infant daughter, Paula, his nine siblings, Mary, Sally, John, Margaret, Cecelia, Joseph, Veronica, Catherine and Daniel. He is survived by his children, Michael (Julie), Christopher (Jeannie), Frank (Carol), Caroline and Danielle (Jean-Louis) his grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Sarah, Kyle, Matthew, Robert, Amanda, Christopher, Alexandra, Abigail and Mackenzie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
