Myrtle Makohon (nee Uhrynuik) passed away peacefully on September 6, 2011. Myrtle was born in 1918 to Dmitri and Eugenia Uhrynuik in Vita, Manitoba Canada, and grew up in Winnipeg Manitoba. Myrtle married the late Michael Makohon in 1950. They raised their three daughters in Buffalo, NY where Myrtle was a real estate agent. She was very active at the Historical Society of Buffalo, St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and her neighborhood Garden Club. The Makohons provided support and cared for many people displaced from the Ukraine who settled in Buffalo. After retirement, Myrtle was a long time resident of Westfield, NJ where she lived with her family. Myrtle was an excellent baker and cook. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, gardening and decorating. She led a very active life until her death. Mrs. Makohon is survived by her sister, Helen Symchych of Minneapolis, her daughter and son-in-law Andrea and John Woods, her daughter and son-in-law Helen Makohon and Richard Dreizen, all of Westfield NJ. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Michael Woods, Timothy Woods, Nicholas Lesem, Alexander Lesem, Charlotte Dreizen and Hal Makohon. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at the Presbyterian Church of Westfield NJ.140 Mountain Avenue Westfield, NJ.
