Nancy Marie (New) Whitbred

Nancy Marie New Whitbred passed away on June 8, 2020 surrounded by her family at her home in Mountainside, NJ, she was 90 years old. Nancy grew up in Elizabeth, NJ and was a graduate of Battin High School where she won the drama award for excellence in theater. She married Willard R. Whitbred in 1951 and moved to Mountainside, NJ where they raised three children. Nancy was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved cooking, baking, art, painting, gardening and reading.
Her strong and devoted faith translated into kindness toward others always
and found its home at The Community Presbyterian Church in Mountainside. Nancy loved teaching Sunday school and working with the church's Women's Association on community service projects.
She was a docent at the Center for Visual Arts in Summit, NJ, learning about the exhibits and enjoying her time sharing her knowledge with the people and especially the children who came to visit. She welcomed any trips she could take to museums and spent years creating beautiful watercolor paintings of flowers which filled her home.
Even though the love of her life died in 1980 she took every opportunity to fill her life with the things she loved most: her children and grandchildren. Nancy is survived by her children, Bill (Cathy), Wendy, Bonnie Canevari (Mark), and grandchildren, Jeremy (Sara) and Amanda Whitbred, Nancy Marie, Peter and Andrew Canevari.
In lieu of flowers we are asking for donations to the Community Presbyterian Church of Mountainside's Christian Education Fund. Private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
