Ralph C. Enes

Ralph C. Enes, 87 passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at his home in Westfield. Ralph was born and raised in Clifton, NJ and has been a resident of Westfield for 52 years. After receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1944, he served in the US Navy as Executive Officer on a minesweeper in the South Pacific. He returned to earn a MS in Management from Stevens. Ralph retired from Exxon Co. USA after thirty-four years where he worked in engineering, supervisory and administrative positions primarily at the Bayway Refinery in Linden, NJ. His career included an assignment to the construction team for building a new refinery near Bordeaux, France. Surviving are his wife of sixty-two years Jean, and his three children David, Robert and Linda. David resides in Rhode Island with his two children Rose and Sean. Robert lives in Clark, NJ and Linda has her home in Westfield. Active in the community Ralph was a member of the Presbyterian Church for 50+ years, a literacy tutor, United Way volunteer, Assistant Boy Scout leader in Clifton and worked with Westfield Troop 72, served as Treasurer of the Linden Rotary, the Scholarship Committee for the Westfield Rotary and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He taught Sunday school in Fanwood, France and Westfield. Other activities included belonging to the Watchung Garden Club, Old Guard and Exxon Annuitant's Club. Ralph enjoyed birding, working on home repairs and renovations, gardening and reading. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 22nd at the Presbyterian Church of Westfield Parish House Chapel located at 140 Mountain Avenue. Arrangements by Gray Funeral Home, Westfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westfield Rescue Squad, American Heart Association or the National Parkinson's Foundation.
