On October 21, 2021, there was a great reunion. A short year and a half earlier, Assunta (Susie) Perrella left this earth due to complications from pneumoniaâ¦.and on a cool October day, Remo Perrella, her husband of 58 years, joined her.
Remo Perrella was born on May 18, 1925 in the Italian section of the Bronx. After the passing of his mother, he and his 2 brothers, William and Emilio, were sent to Italy to be raised by their maternal extended family. Years later, Remo would return the US. He took whatever jobs were available to make a life for himself and, eventually, took the path he was always the most proud ofâ¦serving our country in the United States Army. During his years of service, was drafted twiceâ¦.stationed in both the southeastern USA and, during The Korean conflict, in Germany. After the war, he once again returned to the USâ¦where he began a 25+ year career at Union Carbide corporation in Piscataway, NJ.
Assunta (Susie) Perrella was born May 1, 1934 in Atina, a small town and commune in the province of Frosinone, Lazio region of central Italy. She grew up with her brother Frank Caira and two loving parents, Pietro and Genoveffa Caira. At an early age, she developed a love for sewing and creating clothing. This would become her life's career over the next many decades. Many years later, after moving to the USA, she worked as a seamstress throughout the New York and New Jersey areas.
Remo and Susie were set up on a blind date in the early 1960s. Apparently, she didn't want to go out with him, at first, because she didn't like his name. We aren't really sure if that was true or notâ¦.just one of the many stories-of-old that made its way to our dinner table. She must have gotten over it because they were married in October of 1963. Four years later, their son Marc, was born, and Paul followed two years after that, in the summer of 1969. Remo and Susie worked very hard to provide a home and for their family, and both finally retired well into their 60s.
Remo and Susie were further blessed with 4 amazing grandchildrenâ¦Cara, Emilie, Caylie and Logan. They spent their final years building wonderful memories, and stories beyond imagination.
Remaining to cherish Remo and Susie's memory are their two childrenâ¦Marc Perrella and his wife Tania, Paul Perrella and his wife Kellyâ¦and their four grandchildren Cara Furphy and her husband Eric, Emilie Perrella, Caylie Perrella and Logan Perrella.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9th 2022 from 2pm - 4pm at Gray Memorial Home at 12 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ.
