Robert Lincoln Gude, 91, died on December 9th at his home in Somerset, NJ. Born in Englewood, NJ to Herbert & Viola Gude, Bob graduated Dwight Morrow High School and Duke University with a Business Administration degree. He proudly served our country in the US Army for 2 years during the Korean War. Post-war he attended the University of California, Berkeley for graduate courses in Finance.
He married his beloved wife, Suzanne, and eventually settled in Westfield NJ. Together, they had 4 children and Bob was an excellent dad. He managed to juggle 4 kids and their sports and hobbies - he was a timer at swim meets, chaperoned Boy Scouts camping trips, attended choir & band performances, carted kids to soccer, baseball, swimming & softball games, and went on countless out of state trips for travel soccer. He did all this and still managed to have a successful financial career in NYC, retiring from Burnham Securities at the age of 80.
Bob enjoyed a good cigar, playing golf at Echo Lake Country Club where he was a member for over 40 years, swimming in the ocean (particularly Spring Lake where he spent many summers in his youth), watching the horse races at Monmouth Park, cheering on his favorite college and professional sports teamsâ¦not to mention he grilled the best steaks ever!
Predeceased by his wife Suzanne, he is survived by daughters Theo Truch and Valerie Lensborn (Sean), sons William (Harriet) and Robert (Ellen), and grandchildren Katie, Sophia, Gillian, and Andrew.
The family will have a private service. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in his memory to Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 356,
