Robert R. Heckman age 83 passed away on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006 at home in Augusta NJ. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 7 -9 pm and on Friday from 11 am until 12 noon in the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield. Interment will be private.
Mr. Heckman was born in Tusseyville, Pennsylvania and grew up in Asbury Park and lived in Westfield for 52 years before recently moving to Augusta.
He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp. attaining the rank of first Lt. during World War II.
He was employed for 43 years with the Department of Banking and Insurance for the State of New Jersey as a Special Deputy Commissioner of Insurance. He retired in 1990.
He was very active with the First Baptist Church in Westfield. He served as a deacon, usher financial secretary and was also a member of their bowling team. He was also a proud member of the ROMEOS.
He is predeceased by his first wife Ruth.
Surviving are his wife Elvera Christopher Heckman. One son, Jim and his wife Jeni. A daughter, Lori Kimmelman. A stepson, Rick Christopher and his wife Leslie. Two stepdaughters, Linda Christopher and her husband Dan and Andrea Torczon and her husband Rich. A brother, Bill Heckman and two sisters, Peg Sherman and Eleanor Mooney. She will also be deeply missed by her four grandchildren and eight stepgrandchildren.
