Rollin Thomas White Jr. formerly of Westfield died on January 24 at Brighton Gardens in Mountainside.
He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and had lived in Westfield for the last 45 years. He graduated from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio and the Naval Supply School at Harvard. he served in the US Navy as a Senior Grade Lieutenant in the Pacific during World War II and the Iwo Jima Invasion.
He worked for the Oliver Machinery Company as Eastern Sales Manager and then worked as the National Sales Manager for NJ Machine of New Jersey. He traveled extensively in the US and Puerto Rico. During this time he developed a patent for a labeling process that is still in use today.
After retiring, he was very active at The First United Methodist Church of Westfield. He served on the Finance, Property Management, Building Committees and the Administrative Board.
Rollin is survived by his beloved wife Betty of 61 years and their three children: Rollin Thomas White III of Westfield, James Stuart White of Warren and Barbara White Ellsworth of Westfield. Six grandchildren: Carolyn Elizabeth White, Rollin Thomas White IV, John James Pearson, James Stuart White Jr., Jeffrey Thomas Pearson and Laura Lee White. He is also survived by a niece and nephews.
A Memorial Service will take place at The First United Methodist Church of Westfield on February 2 at 11 am. Interment will be private in Pittsburgh, Pa.
