Ruby C. Ferreira

May 30, 2012 — September 10, 2012

Born in Sanford, North Carolina on May 30, 1923. Died at Carolina House Assisted Living, Pinehurst, North Carolina on September 10, 2012 Ruby Phillips Clifton Ferreira was born on May 30, 1923 to Vannie Phillips Clifton and Charles Clifton. She attended East Carolina State Teachers College for three years, then met and married 1st Lt. Herbert Ferreira. They were married 55 years until his passing in 1998. After graduating from Newark State College (now Kean University) she enjoyed an over 25 year career as an elementary school teacher for the Cranford Public Schools and touched many lives. She was an officer of the statewide Association of Kindergarten Educators and an active advocate for early childhood education. As a young married couple, she and her husband helped run a very successful summer community theater in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. That love of theater continued when they moved to Cranford (and then Clark) and made monthly trips to NYC to attend Broadway plays. While living in Cranford and Clark, NJ, Ruby was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford and a member of the Margaret Greene Guild. She was an avid gardener and an accomplished seamstress in her spare time. Her love of gardening was only exceeded by her love of backyard birds and other small backyard animals. Ruby returned to North Carolina in 2006. She was a devoted wife and mother and is survived by her beloved daughter, Patricia Ann Phillips and her beloved grandson, Craig Andrew Garchinsky. Flowers are welcome, but if a donation is preferred, donations can be made in her name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society @tisbest.org Visitation from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Friday, September 14, 2012 at Gray's Funeral Home in Cranford.
