Shirley Louise Vitelli (nee Bartell), of Manchester, NJ, formerly of Westfield, NJ, passed away at her home on Friday October 5, 2018, at the age of 86. Born in Brooklyn, NY, to late Rev. Ernest C. and Madeliene King Bartell, Shirley grew up in Exeter, NH, and later lived in Natrona Heights, PA, before moving to Westfield. Shirley attended the Knox School for Girls in Cooperstown, NY, and Mount St. Mary Academy in Watchung, NJ. She was a graduate of the Class of 1950 from Westfield High School, and attended Union County College before going to nursing school. Shirley worked in nursing at the former Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield. After her marriage to Anthony she moved to Fanwood, where they raised their children. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Westfield, where she was active in the church choir. An equestrian, Shirley loved horses, as well as playing the piano and the accordion. Shirley was preceded in death by her younger sister Pauline Yvonne Bartell and is survived by her loving husband: Anthony Vitelli Sr., daughter: Pauline McShea and husband James of Tuckerton, NJ, son: Jeffrey B. Vitelli of Howell, NJ, son: Anthony Vitelli Jr. of Whiting, NJ, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Shirley's visitation will begin at 10AM on Tuesday October 9, 2018 at Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad St., Westfield, where her funeral service will begin at 1:00PM Tuesday.
