A SERVICE FOR SIGMUND R. SERAFIN 95, OF MANCHESTER, NJ FORMALLY OF CRANFORD WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY MARCH 17TH AT GRAY Memorial FUNERAL HOME 12 SPRINGFIELD AVENUE, CRANFORD, NEW JERSEY. VISITATION WILL BE FROM 10:30 TO 11:30 A.M. AND SERVICE WILL FOLLOW AT 11:30. A BURIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 12:30 AT FAIRVIEW CEMETERY IN WESTFIELD. MR. SERAFIN PASSED AWAY ON MARCH 14TH AFTER A LONG ILLNESS. HE WAS BORN IN JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY. HE WORKED AS AN ACCOUNTANT FOR KRAFT FOOD COMPANY BEFORE SERVING IN THE U.S.ARMY AIR FORCE FOR 4 YEARS DURING WWII AS A STAFF SERGEANT. AFTER HIS DISCHARGE, HE WORKED FOR THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE FOR 40 YEARS BEFORE RETIRING. SIGMUND WAS A CHOIR MEMBER FOR 50 YEARS IN VARIOUS CHURCHES, INCLUDING THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF CRANFORD. HE WAS ALSO A MEMBER THE COUPLE'S CLUB, HELPED WITH THE BOY SCOUTS AND SHELTERING THE HOMELESS. HE WORKED ON THE RIVER COMMITTEE, HE VOLUNTEERED AT LYONS VETERAN'S HOSPITAL FEEDING PATIENTS, AND HE SORTED CLOTHES AT MENLO PARK VETERAN'S NURSING HOME. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 328-IN CLARK. SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE OF 67 YEARS, MAVIS: DAUGHTER JUDITH SJURSEN, SONS STEVEN R. AND JOHN R., 8 GRANDCHILDREN AND 10 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN. THE FAMILY REQUESTS THAT IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, ANY DONATIONS BE SENT TO HOSPICE CENTER FOR HOPE, INC., 1900 RARITAN RD., SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ 07076
