Stanley Leroy Burdett

December 19, 1928 — August 20, 2009

Stanley L. Burdett, a loving Husband, Father And Grandfather, passed away on Thursday August 20, 2009 at his residence in Cranford.

Stanley was born in Newark, New Jersey, and had lived in Cranford since 1960. He was a self employed Professional Ceramic Tile Contractor of many years, before his retirement in 1994. Those of us, who were so blessed to have known Stanley, enjoyed a man with a wonderful smile, a great sense of humor, and a loving and caring personality. He was friendly and helpful, and always had something nice to say to those he would meet.

Stanley enjoyed traveling around to flea markets and would often be seen visiting local garage sales and antique shops, were he would find items for his various hobbies and collections. Stanley's favorite hobby and real passion was as a Toy Train Collector. Over a period of several decades, he accumulated more than 5300 locomotives and a wealth of other train memorabilia. All this was housed in a life sized round house, he had built in his attic. He was also a long time member of the Train Collectors Association.

Stanley was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Cranford for many years, later moving to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Westfield. Stanley was active in his community as well, having been a member of the Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, and the American Legion Post # 328 of Clark. He was also a veteran of the armed forces, having served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.

Stanley was pre-deceased by his grandson Brian Burdett (age 15). He is survived by his loving wife, Daphne "Dee" Noel (Butt) Burdett, his children, James S. Burdett, Christopher David Burdett, Dorothy Francis (Burdett) Honeywell, Barbara Ann (Burdett) Nacca and Richard William Burdett, and many Grandchildren.
