Theodosia Kelcey Dean, Long-time Westfield Resident Theodosia Kelcey Dean, age 90, of Fanwood, NJ died Saturday, April 24, 2010 at home after a brief illness. "Theo" was born in Wilkinsburg, PA in 1919 to Grace Saxe and George Guy Kelcey and resided in Elizabeth, NJ before moving to Westfield with her parents and sister, Virginia in 1932. An alumnus of Vail-Deane School in Elizabeth and a graduate of Westfield High School, Theo went on to earn a B.A. in Economics from William and Mary College in Williamsburg, VA in 1942. After graduating, she moved to New York City where she served as Assistant to the President of Bankers Trust, with an office overlooking the bond trading floor in lower Manhattan. Theo soon met her future husband, Raymond and moved back to Westfield to marry and raise a family. A past president of the Westfield Garden Club, Theo was a long time member of Echo Lake Country Club, the Presbyterian Church of Westfield, Westfield Service League, and Questers. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, Broadway plays and traveling all over the world. She cherished her family, her long-time friends and her many new friends at the Chelsea in Fanwood, where she moved in early 2009. Theo was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Raymond Moyer Dean in 1985 and her sister, Virginia Kelcey Leland in 2009. She is survived by her children Bruce Dean and wife Claudia of Cary, NC, Nancy Smythe and husband David of Greenville, SC, and Barbara Dempsey and husband Michael of Scotch Plains, eight grandchildren and step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was a role model to many and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Presbyterian Church of Westfield, 140 Mountain Avenue, Westfield, NJ. Arrangements are by the Gray Funeral Home in Westfield, NJ.
