Walter Ditzel, Jr.
Walter Ditzel, Jr., long time resident of Cranford, NJ, passed away on July 10, 2018 at 98 years of age.
Walter served his country in the Army's 811th Tank Destroying Unit during World War II.
After the war, Walter wed Elsie Mandoni, beginning their 55 year marriage.
Walter was an avid sportsman and member of the VFW and the American Legion.
He was a Cranford fireman for 4 years and then had a career in public service with the Union Country Road Department.
Walter was predeceased by his wife Elsie, and will be missed by his family including two sisters, Alice Frankenberger and Bessie DiLorenzo and a brother, Wesley Ditzel. In addition, he will also be missed by his three children, Barbara Chester, Shirley Sodomora and Walter Ditzel, III, as well as (12) grandchildren and (10) great-grandchildren.
A life celebration will be on Sunday from 3 to 7 pm at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, Cranford. Graveside services will be 10:30 am, Monday July 16, 2018, at the Readington Reformed Church Cemetery in Whitehouse Station, NJ. You may go to grayfuneralhomes.com for on line condolences.
