Welthy Garges passed away peacefully on February 10, 2023. Born in Shanghai, China to Tse-Sung (Ernest) and Chen-Yi (Betty) Lauh, they emigrated to the United States in 1937.
Welthy grew up in New York City and graduated from Northfield School for Girls in Massachusetts. She graduated from Barnard College in 1956 and moved shortly thereafter to Cranford. After the birth of her three children, she attended Rutgers University and received her Master of Library Science degree.
Mrs. Garges, as she was known to the students, was the librarian at Brookside and Cleveland elementary schools in Cranford in the late 1960's, then served as librarian at Orange Avenue School until she retired in 1998. She could often also be found in the Cranford High School library during summer school. It was at Cranford Public Schools where she met her life-long friends.
Welthy enjoyed her retirement to the fullest, attending theater, ballet and opera in NYC, travelling with her close friends throughout the US and abroad, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She often remarked that she was so busy, she didn't know how she had had time to work before.
Welthy leaves behind her son Larry, daughter Wendy Kaszycki (husband Bill), son Steven (wife Suzanne), 4 grandchildren: Alex (wife Laura), Courtney (husband Marc), Nicholas (wife Mellicia), and Devon (husband Felix); and 2 great-grandchildren: Bennett and Caia. She is also survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Baker and Lennie Lauh, and her brother, Weber Lauh, as well as her nieces, nephew, and their children.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm on Monday February 20, 2023, at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ 07016, where her Service of Remembrance will follow at 3:00PM Monday. Please go to: www.grayfuneralhomes.com to offer condolences.
