William Hendry, 89, of Cranford, N.J., passed away on March 1, 2016. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 9:30 am in The Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Ave., Cranford, N.J. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Visitation and Life Celebration will be on Friday, March 4, 2016, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home.
Born in Harrison, N.J., Mr. Hendry lived in Cranford for 55 years.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, and then in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He spent the majority of his career as a mechanical engineer with Western Electric Co. and AT&T. He also spent many years teaching college as an adjunct faculty member at NJIT and Union County College.
Over the years, he was a member of the Cranford VFW Post 335, the Masonic Lodge, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Foundation for Diabetes Research, and was a member and elder of Osceola Presbyterian Church.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Gladys, and is survived by his sister, Mae Dehmer of Clifton Park, NY, his sons William and his wife Jennifer, Bruce and Brian and his granddaughters, Melissa and Kristen
