William Allan Schaefer

William Allan (Al) Schaefer entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation from 2 -4 and 7-9PM Thursday November 17, at Gray Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad St., Westfield (www.grayfuneralhomes.com, to offer condolences). Funeral services will begin at 10AM Friday, November 18, 2011, in the First United Methodist Church, #1 E. Broad St., Westfield. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. Mr. Schaefer was born on July 26, 1936 in Irvington, NJ. Raised in Springfield, NJ he had resided in Westfield for the past 47 years. Al served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962 and worked at Houdaille Construction Materials in Springfield, NJ for 24 years. He was a Purchasing Manager for American Aluminum Company in Mountainside, NJ for the last 33 years. Al was the beloved husband of Nancy for 51 years, loving father of Sharry Rubinetti and husband John of Bethlehem, PA, and Laurie Vaccaro and husband Willie of Westfield, NJ, and proud Pop-Pop of Michael, Alex and Joey, his cherished grandsons. Surviving are 2 brothers, David Eva (Judith) of Murrells Inlet, SC and John Eva (MaryBeth) of New Port Richey, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was a man of great fortitude and integrity. He fought a valiant battle and will be missed by everyone who knew him. Memorial donations can be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
