Yuriy Shakhnes

Yuriy Shakhnes, 81, of Cranford, NJ, died on Saturday May 21, 2016, at Overlook Medical Center, Summit, NJ. Born in Moscow, Russia, Yuriy moved to America in 1992. He was a metallurgical engineer, and the beloved husband of Vera Monosova, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his son: Alexander Shaknes and his wife Valentina of Brooklyn, NY, and three grandchildren: Peter, Nicholas, and Alice. Family and friends are invited at 11:00AM Wednesday May 25, 2016, at Gray Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Avenue, Cranford to Yuriy's visitation and funeral service. Graveside services will follow at 12:15 PM, Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
Yuriy enjoyed writing Russian Poetry, one of his poems is included below.

А мы умудрились и в трудное время
По честному мыслить и жить.
Так в почве скалистой добротное семя
Дает урожай, и его не сгубить.

Так хочется верить что финиш далече,
И мой продолжается путь.
Мечтаю я в синий и радостный вечер
В день завтрашний вдруг заглянуть.

Так хочется внуков дождаться,
Уверенность приобрести,
В их памяти доброй надолго остаться,
Поставивши точку на этом пути!
