.Zenon Stanislaus Borkowski died on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, a few days after he celebrated his 92nd birthday. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at St. Michael's Church, 40 Alden Street, Cranford, New Jersey at 10:30 am. A repast will follow.
Stan, as everyone called him, was married to Julia Fancuillo for 70 years. They were both natives of Staten Island, New York, where they lived until they moved to Westfield, New Jersey. Stan was born in Elm Park on Staten Island and was the last survivor of a large family; he was the youngest of 13 children born to parents who came to the United States from Poland.
He attended Port Richmond High School, New York University and served in the army, cavalry division. Stan was an avid and accomplished golfer, an ardent reader, and a talented artist/painter.
Stan was a retired New York City police officer, first in the New Dorp precinct on Staten Island and then as sergeant in charge of security for many years at City Hall and Gracie Mansion for New York mayors David Dinkens and Ed Koch.
He and his wife Julia traveled extensively throughout Europe and visited Bermuda many times where they often played golf.
In addition to his wife Julia, Stan is survived by daughter Julie Borkowski, son David Borkowski, granddaughters Jackie Whitty-Snensky and Leslie Nash and great-grandson Hunter Nash.
Stan was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; always the consummate gentleman, he was quick-witted and kind and was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in his name to The New York City Sergeants Benevolent Association Widows and Children's Fund, Inc.
